Burnside Endorses Glenunga Hub Upgrades

ByBrett Pilgrim

The Burnside City Council approved a $5 million project for developing the Glenunga Reserve, creating more opportunities for community participation in the process. The reserve currently provides a popular gathering space for Burnside’s residents and sports teams, so the improved and expanded amenities will be a welcome change.

Residents and owners of property in Burnside can take advantage of these new facilities as early as 2015, when the council expects the project to be completed. The remodeled and repaired equipment will enrich the neighbourhood by catering to people of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens.

Following community feedback regarding the size and scope of the project, the council scaled back some of the renovations in the original plan. Vital aspects of the scheme are still in place, however, including a new community building, picnic and barbecue areas, public toilets, lighting and car parking.

Renovations to the recreational facilities at Glenunga will make Burnside and the surrounding suburbs more attractive places to live, thus raising the value of real estate in Adelaide.

There are also designs for a fenced play space catering to young children and a walking track and fitness stations. Improvements to the sporting fields and digging new drainage and irrigation systems have been made a priority.
