Keep the kids occupied in Adelaide these holidays

ByBrett Pilgrim

Residents of property in Adelaide have plenty to look forward to during the July school holidays. While the weather might be cooling down, the opportunities for fun with the family are just heating up with a plethora of activities on offer over the coming weeks.

Batty Bingo sets the wheels in motion on the 8 and 15 of July, offering kids the chance to take part in a free bingo event at the Adelaide gaol. There is also a raft of other activities to get involved with, from BMX workshops to events focussed on fostering musical talent.

Lord mayor Martin Haese pointed out that there are also a range of things families can do in the city for very little cost. Mud Play, for example, gives kids the chance to experience and have fun with nature, searching for fossils and creating craft out of the objects they find in Veale Gardens.

There is also a great selection of play areas throughout the park lands, such as a giant chess set and table tennis table in Whitmore Square and 25 metre-long flying fox and giant mouse wheel in Bonython Park.

"Our glorious park lands are full of things to do for little or no cost, where kids and families can learn and be with nature or try new activities to develop their creativity through play," said Mr Haese.

Adventurous souls can even try their hand at football tricks with some of the country's best, linking in with the Australian Freestyle Football titles being held in the City of Churches for the first time. From 12pm to 2pm on 10 July, Oceania Freestyle Football will be holding a series of 30 minute freestyle football workshops for young people aged between 13 and 17.

"This is a great opportunity and we're expecting to see a big crowd joining in on the workshops and developing some new skills – who knows, we might discover the next freestyle football champion," Mr Haese said.

With Adelaide pulling out all the stops to entertain families during these schools holidays, it could be just one more reason to give the team at Ray White a call to make the city your home.
